ضهور الشوير

تقع ضهور الشوير في قضاﺀ المتن في محافظة جبل لبنان وترتفع نحو ١٢٠٠ م عن سطح البحر، وتبعد حوالي ٢٧ كلم عن العاصمة بيروت، وتحيط بها مجموعة من القرى المجاورة من أهمهاعين السنديانة، بولونيا، الخنشارة، و زرعــون. صنفت في المرتبة الرابعة سياحياً في لبنان.

يعود الأصل في تسمية ضهور الشوير إلى كلمة "شوير" السريانيّة وتعني في اللغة العربيّة الشفير، اما كلمة الضهور فأضيفت اليها وأصبحت المحلة تعني مضرب الرياح.

تشرف ضهور الشوير على جبال صنين وكسروان، وتتميز بطابعها السياحي الجميل وهوائها العليل، ويؤمها السياح كل صيف لروعة طقسها الجميل، ومناظرها الخلابة، و تربض على قمة جبل أخضريطل على وادٍ سحيق.

وتتميز ضهور الشوير باشجار الصنوبر وكرمة العنب والمنازل اللبنانيّة المتجسدة بالحجارة الكبيرة المقصبة والقناطر المتناسقة والقرميد الأحمر. وتتزين البلدة كل صيف، لمهرجانات تحوّل ساحاتها اعراساً... ويقام مهرجان الصيف الذي يستضيف فرقاً محلية وعربية، وعيد المغتربين في شهر آب، وتنتخب خلال هذا المهرجان ملكة جمال المغتربين وتُعرض خلاله سيارات ذات قيمة تاريخية وحديثة.

That also has not stopped us, for over five years, from making a shining difference in uplifting the name and the image of Dhour Choueir worldwide, pointing out the shortcomings of some, and giving credit where credit is due.

To that effect, we award the First Choueir.com Man of the Year label to the Choueiri who, through his philosophy of "Injaz" has single handedly revived Dhour Choeuir after decades of shameful neglect -- Mayor Elias Bou Saab.

Dhour Choueir, aka Shweir, in the Matn region in Lebanon, at 1,250 meters above seal level, is a village known for its breathtaking scenery, populous pine trees and friendly locals.

The village of Dhour Shweir lies on a northwestern peninsula, overlooking the city of Beirut, Jounieh, Mount Sannine and theMediterranean. It is 30 Km from Beirut and 42 Km from Beirut International Airport.
With 400 year old houses, narrow alleys and old churches, Choueir is a village whose traditional fabric and essence has been well preserved…

Dhour Al-Choueir's inhabitants, like Tanios Bou-Nader and his sons Jamil and Joseph Bou-Nader, were famous for their style in architecture. They were the masons of most of the historical places in Lebanon. All the ancient buildings one is likely to encounter immortalize in their delicately engraved sculpture the hands of Choureir masons. Dhour Al-Choueir is important for its annual Mahrajan for Immigrants.
